New York Hat

Mary Pickford, Lionel Barrymore, Dorothy Gish

Silent 16 mins B&W 1912

When Mrs. Harding dies, she leaves a mysterious letter for the pastor. The letter revealed how her cold, miserly husband worked her to death. She asks the pastor to administer a small trust so that she may bequeath her daughter with money to enjoy some fineries that her father has surely always denied. The village millaner always carried the latest hats in fashion from New York. One such hat has caught the girl's fancy. The pastor, loyal to Mrs. Harding's wishes, purchases the hat for the girl. Gossip soon spreads like a brushfire throughout the village. Charming short starring the legends of silent cinema.
